What better way to capture the spirit of Thanksgiving than through flowers? And if those flowers are placed at the heart of your table? We at Bice's Florist say you've just won Thanksgiving.
The floral centerpiece is almost as old as the cornucopia, and just as beloved. If you're hosting Thanksgiving this year, consider what you'll put at the center of the table, and make it good. There's nothing quite like flowers for capturing the essence of what Thanksgiving is about - gathered family and friends, a celebration of the harvest and a gracious spirit. AutumnThanksgiving
In the U.S. and across the globe, it's customary to provide a host or hostess with a gift in thanks. Especially when that event is an elaborate effort, like Thanksgiving. Ideally, we offer flowers, fruit baskets, or other food gifts, all of which we at Bice's Florist can help you select. But when it comes to flowers, there are a few important considerations. It's traditional to offer them in a vase, for one. The flowers should be accommodating in both color scheme and type. Since we often don't know our host's exact tastes, it's best to choose something that is an all-around crowd-pleaser. Read More about Fine Florals for Your Host »

America The Beautiful
Long ago, in 1926, President Calvin Coolidge was asked to officially declare that on November 11, Americans would celebrate "Armistice Day." A way to commemorate the end of WWI - which had ended on the same day in 1918 - the U.S. would join Canada, Australia and Great Britain in celebrating armistice. Eventually, Armistice Day evolved into Veterans Day, with its own flag, own rituals and slightly different angle; instead of commemorating the end of WWI, we now honor all retired and active military who have served. We have parades, festivals, marches and 5K runs, and thanks to Bice's Florist, we have rustic arrangements to send our vets, too. Read More about Rustic Arrangements for Veterans Day »

We all know Halloween's an occasion to indulge in candy, play some tricks and dress up however we want. Creative license abounds as we spread cobwebs throughout the house, carve freakish faces into pumpkins and shock our loved ones with creepy scenes, like gravestones in the front yard or a skeletal hand brandishing a bowl of popcorn. Given all the hijinx, there's no reason your flowers can't have a little fun too. Let Bice's Florist help you transform your tabletops and counters with some whimsical Halloween decor and design guaranteed to impress even the most cold-hearted witch. Halloween
Are you familiar with Sweetest Day? If not, you should be. This wonderful little holiday observance is popular throughout the Midwest and Northeast, and has been around for approximately 100 years. Originally established by candy companies who donated boxes of sweets to those in need, the day has evolved to represent any sweet gestures made to help someone who may need encouragement. So whether you want to cheer up your favorite aunt who is recuperating from an illness, or to encourage the single mom working hard every day - October 21 is the perfect day to send your best wishes. And Bice's Florist has the sweetest floral designs and gifts to help you!
A Little History: The original efforts by candy company executives were met by cynicism, as skeptics suspected the businessmen of attempting to start yet another commercial holiday that benefited their pocketbooks. However, it never did catch on as a "candy" holiday, more as a day for acts of kindness. Read More about Gifts of Kindness on Sweetest Day »

In 1958, a woman named Patricia Bays Haroski had an idea. As an employee at Chicago-based State Farm Insurance, she thought that a day set aside to enhance and encourage positive employee/employer relationships could create a more positive workplace overall. Four years after proposing her idea to the Illinois government, governor Otto Kerner made the observance official. Although the day was never made a federal holiday, it is recognized across the country, as well as in South Africa, India and Australia.

Autumn
If you have ever moved into a new home, especially in a new area, you know that the whole process can be a bit stressful. Between wrangling hundreds of boxes, several children, and figuring out when the internet company will be showing up, there is a lot going on. It can be a relief when the knock at the door reveals a friendly face offering a home cooked meal, a helping hand, or simply a smile to say "welcome to the neighborhood".
If one of your family members or friends have moved, you may wish to help them settle in and feel like they are home. History tells us that the original housewarming parties, hundreds of years ago, were arranged to provide firewood to new homeowners so they could survive the winter - quite literally "house-warming". But times have changed, and Bice's Flowers has the floral arrangements and plants that will instead warm their hearts and help to make their house a home.
