Administrative Professionals Day is on the horizon (April 25), and we here at Bice's Florist know just the thing to kick things off. We're calling it "Desktop Awareness," and it's our own personal way to bring attention to the dire straits our work spaces often find themselves in after a long winter. Bereft of flowers and plants, our desks look empty and lifeless. They deserve more. Read More about Raise Awareness On Behalf Of Your Desktop »
With International Women's Day on the horizon, it's about time to start thinking about who you'll be honoring this year. If you're like us at Bice's Florist, you've probably got lots of women to celebrate on this important day, which is itself devoted to recognizing the achievements of women across the world. It's also an occasion to set new goals, and indeed many IWD groups establish a theme each year that expresses their vision for the year ahead. Since 1909, the U.S. has been celebrating International Women's Day, and that has always included thoughtful gifts and gestures of support. Read More about International Women’s Day Is Here »
At Bice's Florist, we're huge advocates of the idea of flowers as self-care. They are as vitally important to your well being, if not more, as getting a massage or treating yourself to a pedicure. Flowers have been proven to improve cognition, memory and mood. For a hospital patient, they do everything from reduce blood pressure to decrease the amount of medication a patient uses. They invite us to pause, embrace the moment and connect to nature. Read More about When You Treat Yourself To Flowers, Here’s What Happens »

Well, we here at Bice's Florist are here to tell you that there is, and it's been around in some form or another since 2010, when it made its first appearance in the NBC comedy Parks and Recreation. What's the quickest way to help someone heal? If you ask us here at Bice's Flowers, we say a pretty arrangement of fresh blooms. And research supports our thinking: a 2008 study conducted by the American Society for Horticultural Science showed that hospital patients that had flowers or potted plants in their rooms used less pain medication and had lower blood pressure. A researcher at Rutgers found that when someone receives flowers, their happiness over it lasts several days, and contact with friends and family is increased in the exchange of flowers. America The Beautiful
Long ago, in 1926, President Calvin Coolidge was asked to officially declare that on November 11, Americans would celebrate "Armistice Day." A way to commemorate the end of WWI - which had ended on the same day in 1918 - the U.S. would join Canada, Australia and Great Britain in celebrating armistice. Eventually, Armistice Day evolved into Veterans Day, with its own flag, own rituals and slightly different angle; instead of commemorating the end of WWI, we now honor all retired and active military who have served. We have parades, festivals, marches and 5K runs, and thanks to Bice's Florist, we have rustic arrangements to send our vets, too. Read More about Rustic Arrangements for Veterans Day »

In 1958, a woman named Patricia Bays Haroski had an idea. As an employee at Chicago-based State Farm Insurance, she thought that a day set aside to enhance and encourage positive employee/employer relationships could create a more positive workplace overall. Four years after proposing her idea to the Illinois government, governor Otto Kerner made the observance official. Although the day was never made a federal holiday, it is recognized across the country, as well as in South Africa, India and Australia.
