It is valor.” Paul TsongasIf you are close with someone who has lost a child, spouse, sibling, or parent – let them know that you mourn with them and remember their loved one, with red, white, and blue florals that creatively represent their passion and valor. Roses, carnations, lilies, hydrangea, and blue delphinium are just a few of the patriotic flowers that are appropriate for a floral design to be sent to someone’s home. Our Memorial Day designs are sure to beautifully convey your gratitude, empathy, and respect.
Memorial Day History: Originally named “Decoration Day”, Memorial Day was established in the years just after the end of the Civil War. The wearing of a red poppy on your lapel is a custom that began after World War I when Lt. John McCrae wrote a poem “In Flanders’ Fields”, which told of red poppies growing amidst the resting places of fallen soldiers. Many churches and organizations still hand out faux red poppies on Memorial Day. When sending flowers to a grave site or memorial tribute, there are many options – from wreaths and crosses to baskets, cones, and urns. Flowers often include red roses and carnations, but you may also wish to consider gladioli. The sword-shaped gladiolus flower is named after the famed Roman soldiers; it signifies strength of character, valor, and integrity – ideal for our American heroes.
