International Women’s Day has been celebrated since the early 1900’s and has seen a century of challenges and struggles, but also achievement and success. The initiative continues, asking each one of us to be an agent for change within our own spheres of influence. Recognizing that no one country, government, or social justice organization can affect global results on its own, the movement encourages purposeful collaboration. Organizers believe that working together, we can advance the cause of women and unleash their potential onto economies, governments, and cultures. On March 8th, the world unites for one purpose.
International Women’s Day evokes different passions in different people. Some regards it as a celebration, both for individual success and increased societal influence. Some see the day as a serious call to action, and for many it is the perfect opportunity to find an organization or group to join who share your mission. Thousands of events occur annually, and they take place around the world. From large global gatherings to local conferences, there are many ways to be informed and get engaged. Aside from educational forums, there are also concerts, speaker events, exhibitions, online meet-ups, festivals, fun runs, performances, corporate events, and much more. Events take place in 20 states, and are scheduled for 33 cities across America.
