DALLAS (Jan. 31, 2008) - Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten has announced a partnership with Bice's Florist, North Texas' leading online florist, in which a portion of the company's sales will be donated to Witten's foundation to prevent domestic violence.
Through the partnership, which is the latest addition to Bice's "Helping Hands" program, anyone placing an online or phone order can chhose to donate 10 percent of the payment to the Jason Witten S.C.O.R.E. Foundation. The foundation was formed by Witten and his wife, Michelle, to aid women and children affected by domestic violence.
"I am very grateful to the fine people at Bice's Florist for partnering with us on this great cause," said Witten, who will play in next week's Pro Bowl in Hawaii. "Through the generosity of Bice's and their customers, we will be able to further support programs that can bring a smile to the faces of those who really need it. It is great to know that the people at Bice's Florist stand with us in the fight against domestic violence."
Customers can ensure that 10 percent of their order goes to the Jason Witten S.C.O.R.E. Foundation by logging on to www.bicesflorist.com and selecting the option to donate to the foundation on the checkout screen. Those ordering by phone at 817-299-3482 can just tell their customer service representative that they want a portion of their order to go to the foundation.
"The ‘Helping Hands Program' was implemented by Bice's Florist as a way to give back to our community," said Keith Riewe, president and owner of Bice's. "Bice's Florist wants to support the causes that are close to the hearts of our customers and staff. I know personally how difficult it can be to grow up in a home where domestic violence exists. We are pleased to support the S.C.O.R.E. foundation and thank Jason Witten for helping make people's lives better who find themselves living in and with domestic violence."
Witten formed the new foundation, which stands for "Support. Community. Overcome. Rebuild. Educate," in order to benefit and support families in crisis, with the goal to help these families overcome hardship and rebuild their lives. Because of his work with the foundation, Witten is a finalist for the NFL's Walter Payton Man of the Year award, which will be announced just prior to kickoff of Super Bowl XLII this Sunday.
